The NY Met Answer? Pitching, Pitching, Pitching…

Posted: May 1, 2010 in Sports Rants!, The Blog!

And we turn our heads around and the New York Mets, who were left for dead just 10 days ago, are still in first place. After a 9-1 home stand, the Mets headed to their rival Philadelphia Phillies home base were they blasted them 9-1 on the back of starting pitcher Johnathan Niese. Niese finally got his first win after multiple solid starts and the Met bullpen did the rest. I love the way the NY Met bats have all woken up at the exact time, but what caused them to snap out of their funk? Answer…Pitching. Once the pitching got solid so did the bats. Mike Pelfrey, Johan Santana and the rest of the staff have been lights out, taking pressure off of the rest of the team, causing them to relax and just do their thing. It is only May 1st, but who would have thought after a 4-8 start that we would even be talking about them in this way? No one knows the future, but if the pitching can stay stable in the long run, look for the Mets to at least be a wildcard contender into the late summer months.
